With only one month to go until Salute to the ’40s swings into action at The Historic Dockyard Chatham on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023. It’s time to dust off your spiv coat and party like it’s 1945.
During Salute to the ’40s, The History Dockyard Chatham will come alive with the sights and sounds of life of the 1940’s. It doesn’t matter whether you are 3 years old or 83 years, there will have something to entertain and interest you. You are welcome to come dressed in your 1940’s finery or simply enjoy the Living History atmosphere around you – the choice is yours!
We are delighted to welcome back The Glenn Miller Orchestra (Saturday only) and the D-Day Darlings (Sunday only) for the 2023 event. These popular groups are a known for bringing the music of this iconic era alive with hits such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, and many more. There will be music throughout the whole day to enjoy.
Learn the difference between the rock-step and the link step as you try your foot at learning the Jive with drop-in lessons during the day; browse through the Vintage Street Market for the latest 1940’s fashion; embrace your inner child as you enjoy a spin on the carousel; share stories and tips with both military and civilian re-enactors that will be roaming the site.
